On December 4th, the ChatMED team traveled to Paris for a pivotal networking meeting that promises to shape the future trajectory of our project. Hosted on the invitation of two giants in European medical research, AP-HP (Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris) and Inserm (French National Institute of Health and Medical Research), the event was more than just a meet-and-greet. It was a strategic incubator for the next generation of COST and Horizon Europe applications.
The atmosphere in Paris was charged with the spirit of collaboration. The goal was clear: to establish long-lasting relationships and sublimate our collective ideas into concrete proposals that can redefine digital health across the continent.
A Pan-European Coalition
The strength of the event lay in the diversity of its participants, and therefore a high potential of novelty. The ChatMED team was joined by key network members gained through the project’s widening activities, including a dedicated AI ethics expert and a representatives from the Macedonian national health system vendor.
They were met by a prestigious lineup of international institutions, creating a truly cross-disciplinary think tank:
- Switzerland: Cardiovascular Research Institute Basel and the Competence Center for Mental Health at OST Applied Science University (St. Gallen).
- Poland: Nalecz Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering
- Lithuania: Vilnius University Life Sciences Center.
- Portugal: ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon.
- Norway: Molde University College.
- North Macedonia: Sorsix (National Health System vendor).
- Italy: Cyberethics Lab.
To spark dialogue and demonstrate the concrete value of our ecosystem, ChatMED presented four “stories” that highlighted not just what we have done, but where we are going.
1. The Story of Opportunities. We opened by showcasing the rapid velocity of the ChatMED project. Far from being a static research grant, ChatMED has become a launchpad. We highlighted our aggressive progress in proposal writing, demonstrating how the current project is already spawning new extensions and competitive grant applications that secure our sustainability.
2. The Human Evaluation Platform. In an era where AI is often a “black box,” trust is currency. We presented our Human Evaluation Platform, a rigorous framework designed to keep experts “in the loop.” By systematizing how clinicians assess Generative AI outputs, we are ensuring that safety and accuracy remain the bedrock of medical AI adoption.
3. Multi-Agent Systems in Drug Discovery. Moving beyond diagnostics, we showcased a real-world implementation of multi-agent systems in drug discovery. This story illustrated the power of autonomous AI agents working in concert to accelerate the identification of novel therapeutic compounds.
4. Integrating EHRs with ChatMED. Finally, we addressed the practical reality of hospital workflows. We demonstrated how Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems can directly benefit from ChatMED integration. By embedding conversational AI into EHRs, we can reduce administrative burden and provide real-time decision support where it matters most: at the point of care.
The meeting in Paris was a decisive step toward a unified European health-tech network. The connections forged here, among ethical experts, vendors, universities, and research institutes, are already laying the groundwork for ambitious COST Actions and Horizon Europe proposals.
As we returned from Paris, the message was clear: ChatMED is no longer just a project, it is a growing movement connecting the best minds in Europe to solve the hardest problems in healthcare.
