Deliverable D9.1 – POPD – AI – H – EPQ – NEC – Requirement No. 1

Ethics Advisor_For LLM training the patients data will be used. Furthermore, the deep neural network will be used to make treatment recommendations as well as provide “patient-friendly answers and educational content”. So far guidelines/rules/good practices for interactions between vulnerable individuals and LLM have not been formulated. Therefore, an Ethics Advisor is needed to oversee the research and support consortium members to make sure that the project complies with the ethics rules and standards. This is especially important as neither the EU partners (Slovenia and Austria) indicated the involvement of an ethics board in the project. Given that, a comprehensive ethical guidance is required.

It should be noticed that the project includes several training activities of personnel, young researchers, etc., along with procedures for evaluating humans during T2.5 (M1-M6). This human involvement may raise several ethical issues, which are not anticipated by the project.

Therefore, two reports by the Ethics Advisor describing the work of the Advisor have to be provided:

  • Besides reporting on the activities of the work of the advisor, the final Ethics Advisor report at the end of the project (M36) should summarize all ethical issues that have been encountered during the project, as well as how they have been dealt with.
  • First report on M7 (at the end of T2.5). Besides reporting on the activities of the Advisor (advise on the human involvement and measures towards addressing the ethics issues), the report should assess how the consortium implemented the planned procedures and practices within the task T2.5.
